Curtains

Handsewn bespoke curtains are elegant and look stunning as there will be virtually no stitching visible from the front of them. Only the heading tape is machine sewn

All Dawn till Dusk curtains are lined with 100% pre-shrunk cotton lining as standard. They can also be interlined giving your bespoke curtains a more luxurious appearance and drape beautifully, also improving the thermal value, making your room warm and cosy. For bedrooms you have the option to choose blackout lining which helps to make the bedroom darker but does not completely block out light.

I offer a range of curtain heading designs:

  • Pencil pleat.
  • Deep pencil pleat, ideal for long curtains.
  • Hand sewn triple pleat (French Pleat)
  • Cottage top (suitable for poles only).

You’ll need to decide what type of heading you would like for your curtains and the length i.e.

  • To the windowsill.
  • Just under the windowsill.
  • Just off the floor.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL CURTAIN MAKE UP MEASUREMENTS GIVEN TO DAWN TILL DUSK, ARE THE CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY. THEREFORE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU FOLLOW THE MEASURING GUIDELINES BELOW.

Measuring windows for curtains

STEP 1 Measure the curtain track or pole (excluding finials)

Poles should aim to be 15-20cm above your window and should stretch 10-15cm wider than the window on each side.

STEP 2 Deciding on the curtain length

  • To The sill
  • Below the sill – (15cm below the sill)
  • Floor length – (1.5cm from the floor)

STEP 3 Measuring the curtain length

Measure from the eye of the curtain ring on the pole, or the eye on a track, to your desired drop.

I will then guide you through any other information required and please do not be afraid to ask any questions. I would prefer it, to avoid any mistakes!

If required, an appointment for measuring can be arranged. Please get in touch to organise this.

Always use a METAL TAPE MEASURE AND MEASURE TWICE to be sure you have measured correctly.

Roman Blinds

All Dawn till Dusk Roman blinds are lined with 100% pre-shrunk cotton lining as standard. They can also be interlined giving your Roman blind a more luxurious appearance and adding to the thermal value.  For bedrooms you have the option to have blackout lining which helps to make the bedroom darker but does not completely block out light.

I don’t use unsightly Roman blind tape but make the rod pockets out of the lining so that there is no visible stitching on the front of the blind.

Dawn till Dusk blinds are fitted on to a high-quality cassette system which is fully compliant with child safety regulations (BSEN16434:2014). They are available with left or right hand positioned chain mechanism.

Things to consider

Where would you like your blind to hang?

Inside the recess this can make your window appear smaller and reduce light as the blind will stack up over the glass at the top of the window.

Outside the recess, your blind can stack up above the window making it look larger and allow more light into the room.

If you have Tip and Tilt window, please make sure the blind will not impede the window opening.

Please Note: The lead time for roman blinds is 4-6 weeks from the fabric being received in the workroom.

Measuring windows for Roman blinds

Always MEASURE TWICE with a METAL TAPE MEASURE to be sure your measurements are accurate so that your blind will fit beautifully.

Although window recesses are supposed to be exact, always straight and square, they rarely are. Consequently, the width and height may differ, depending on where you measure from. So, measure both width and height, each in three different places.

Inside The Recess
Measure the drop from the top of the recess to the windowsill in THREE places and take the SHORTEST measurement. Then do the same for the WIDTH, again taking the SHORTEST measurement otherwise you risk your blind being too wide for the recess. For the blind to rise and fall smoothly, I recommend you subtract 1cm from the width measurement. If you also use the MINIMUM measurement for the height, your blind should hang naturally within the recess. When you are measuring inside the recess, check there is nothing to prevent the blind from hanging perfectly, such as tiles or any other fittings.

Outside The Recess
Take THREE measurements across the window INCLUDING the frame/architrave and note the LONGEST.

Measure the drop from the top of the window recess. Blinds fitted outside the recess, are usually fitted 5-30cm above the window. So, you will need to confirm how much space is available for the cassette above the window. i.e. between 5-30cm.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

NB. If required, an appointment for measuring can be arranged. Please get in touch to arrange this.
